Overview
The Ford is a private ranch retreat located within the secluded community surrounding Rough Creek Lodge & Resort in Erath County, Texas. Inspired by the simple forms of traditional ranch buildings, the home reinterprets familiar gabled volumes through a restrained architectural language of native limestone, vertical metal siding, standing seam metal roofing, and expansive glass. Carefully composed masses create a balance between openness and privacy while establishing a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
Designed for gathering and everyday living, the home's generous interior spaces flow naturally to covered outdoor living areas, creating a welcoming environment for family and guests. Simple forms, authentic materials, and thoughtful detailing create a ranch retreat that feels both refined and deeply rooted in the Texas landscape.
Architectural Character
A composition of intersecting gabled forms gives the home a distinctive architectural identity while reinforcing the familiar character of traditional ranch buildings. Limestone walls anchor the lower portions of the home as dark metal-clad volumes rise above, creating a balanced relationship between solid and transparent elements that feels both welcoming and enduring.
Outdoor Living
Covered porches and expansive glazing extend the home's living spaces into the surrounding landscape, encouraging year-round enjoyment of the outdoors. Carefully framed views, generous roof overhangs, and a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces create a relaxed ranch retreat designed for gathering, recreation, and quiet weekends away.
