Located on a remote ranch in Texas, Tower House Nº2 is a vertical ranch retreat designed to respond to its extraordinary setting through a compact and efficient architectural form. Currently on the boards, the three-story residence reinterprets the traditional ranch house by stacking living spaces to capture expansive views while minimizing its footprint on the landscape. Clad in corten steel with native stone, structural steel, and expansive glass, the design establishes a timeless architectural expression rooted in durability, craftsmanship, and a strong connection to the surrounding ranch.
Living Above the Landscape
The home's organization is shaped by its vertical composition. The main living level brings together the kitchen, dining, and living spaces while extending to a generous screened porch overlooking the surrounding ranch. Elevated above the landscape, these gathering spaces are designed to maximize natural light, panoramic views, and a seamless relationship between indoor and outdoor living.
A Vertical Retreat
Tower House Nº2 is organized as a progression from public to private. The lower level is planned to accommodate a guest suite, bunk room, storage, and covered parking, creating a durable base anchored to the site. Above, the primary living spaces form the heart of the home, while the uppermost level is reserved for a private bedroom suite positioned to capture the most expansive views across the landscape.
Weathered Form
A restrained palette of corten steel, native stone, structural steel, and expansive glass defines the architectural character of the residence. A prominent stone fireplace anchors the primary living space, while the weathering steel exterior is intended to develop a rich natural patina over time. Together, these materials create a timeless architectural expression that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in the rugged Texas landscape.
